GKEEP is based on the concept of developmentally appropriate practices and it is an integrated program of both the Australian Early Years Learning Framework and the Malaysia Preschool Standard-Based Curriculum. We adopt a play-based approach and with a combination of effective and fun learning hands on activities. We believe play is an important vehicle for learning. All play (learning) activities are carefully designed for children to participate in a high level, mature and engaged play. The play will be both teacher-directed and child-directed.
“Play provides opportunities for children to learn as they discover, create, improvise and imagine. When children play with other children they create social groups, test out ideas, challenge each other’s thinking and build new understandings. Play provides a supportive environment where children can ask questions, solve problems and engage in critical thinking. Play can expand children’s thinking and enhance their desire to know and to learn. In these ways play can promote positive dispositions towards learning (Belong, Being and Becoming – the Early Years Leaning Framework for Australia, Commonwealth of Australia, 2009)
GKEEP conveys the highest expectations for children’s learning through 5 learning outcomes:
- Children have a strong sense of identity
- Children are connected with and contribute to their world
- Children have a strong sense of well-being
- Children are confident and involved learners
- Children are effective communicators
